If you are human, then you have screwed up.
Some screw ups take a larger toll on your life than you expected, at the time of your faulty decision making. Some require you to evaluate your life choices, and some screw ups — the best kind of mistakes — are the ones that make you change.
The decisions that became regrets. The choices you made that you wish you wouldn’t have. Those are the moments that you should give yourself a little grace, for simply being human. Forgive yourself and choose to grow from whatever it was that brought you down.
Whatever the circumstances, that moment in time does not define you. Your past might have lead you to the person that you are right now, but it doesn’t get to choose who you will become tomorrow. That is up to you — entirely. Don’t drown yourself in replays of your past. Don’t suffocate your potential with regret. Stop placing guilt on your future self and destroying your dreams, before they even get a chance to breath.
Life gets hard sometimes. Actually — life is hard all the time. Every new season of your life brings with it, new challenges. We all lose people we love, we all fight with people we shouldn’t, we are all trying to pave our way in the world and make it meaningful at the same time.
Try not to become so consumed with your temporary troubles, and begin to focus on all the good things around you. Something so amazing will happen in your life when you focus your thoughts on everything that you are grateful for. Gratitude is a little thing that can make a huge impact on your perception.
When you purposefully decide to see the good in everything, you are choosing joy for your life. We don’t always get to decide what happens to us, but we certainly get to decide how we respond to it.
That is the absolute beauty in being human — our thoughts are real things, and they control how we see the world. At any moment you can choose to think in a different way. You can choose to stop playing the victim in your own story. You can choose to forgive that family member that treated you wrongly. You can choose to be the voice of kindness, instead of the negativity. You can choose to see the great qualities about your partner, even when they annoy you. You can choose to become an astronaut, if that’s your thing.
Are you picking up what I am putting down? You are the boss of you!
There is only one thing in this world that you can control without fail — and that thing is you. No one ever said being the boss was easy, but it is totally worth it. You get to make every single executive decision about your life. Every day that you are blessed with another breath, you get to decide the path you will walk. Bosses screw up sometimes — they make the wrong call, but the best kind of boss will admit their mistake and change the course. So, if there is any aspect of your life that you are not 100% in love with, change the damn course!
You get a say about what happens tomorrow — your voice matters. Regardless of anything that has been done to you. That one moment in time does not get to define the person you are, unless you allow it to.
Totally your call though. Choose wisely.
